As much as we love dogs, there's a limit to how many Bernese Mountain Dogs we can house comfortably in our home.
Our Guardian Home Program is intended to find forever homes for some of our breeding males and females with trusted individuals in the beginning, rather than later in retirement; thus making the transition to retirement less stressful for our dogs, and not to mention less heartbreaking for us.
Every year, we will consider the financial implications of adding a breeding dog to our breeding program as the commitment requires a significant financial investment on our part (upwards of $8,000 per dog!) We will be very selective when choosing a guardian family for one of our breeding dogs and only carefully selected, trusted individuals will be considered.
Guardians get to experience breeding on a subsidiary level without the significant financial expense, time commitment and stress. As guardians, only the day to day costs of owning a dog is your responsibility, including general veterinary care.
As breeders, we retain full rights to breeding and cover any/all expenses related therein; such as full health testing, breeding rights, registration costs, business management, and any necessary medical interventions during breeding and/or whelping. All breeding and whelping activities take place in our home under our supervision.
We love our dogs and we are happy to partner with those who will love them as much as we do throughout their lifetime. They are always welcome to stay with us; whether it be while their guardian family is away on vacation or any other time they may need a place for them to stay.
Adopting a dog is a lifelong commitment, so please don't take this decision lightly. As you consider being a guardian, please be mindful of the following :
Females: Guardians need to be prepared to have their girl away for up to 8 weeks a year during whelping and puppy rearing. We suggest occasional playdates and even sleepovers a few times a year to accustom her to us, our home and surroundings. With veterinary approval, she will have no more than 4 litters in her lifetime, at which time she will be spayed and enjoy full retirement in her forever home.
Males: Boys will require very little time away from their home for breeding. However, they will require guardians that are consistent in routine and training to ensure good, acceptable behaviour while intact. Males can be viable stud dogs for most of their life.
Advantages of adopting a breeding dog: ✅ Reduced Adoption Fee ✅ Possible income Arrangements can be flexible depending on individual circumstances so for more information, please contact to discuss.
